Gemma Metheringham, Karen Millen’s creative director talks through the design and concept of the beautiful Curvaceous satin dress, one of our key pieces of the spring / summer 2010 season.
“This is one of our definitive pieces for the season, and so we sere really happy when Vogue also selected it to feature. It’s a different take for us on our signature occasion wear that both follows current sculptural trends and retains those clean lines synonymous with Karen Millen dresses. What makes it special is the incredible pattern cutting that creates all the volume at the shoulder in layers of dramatic circular cut frills. The drama of the shoulder detail is emphasized by the simplicity of the seamlines on the body of the dress and the delicate colours of blush pink or silver grey.”
“It’s made from a structured acetate satin which is a very compact cloth with lots of stretch and recovery. This means that it retains its shape for a flattering fit – you need to try this dress on to appreciate the way it sculpts you and enhances your confidence.”
“As a statement piece, all you need to do is just slip it on with a fabulous pair of shoes and you are ready for the red carpet! To create the perfect occasion style, spoil yourself and invest in the limited edition sparkly sandals literally hand covered with Swarovski crystals to create an extraordinary, uncompromising and ultimately dazzling look.”
